The irony of sleep

When Alexander was a baby, he never slept. Seriously, the game always went like this 1) baby closes his eyes; 2) mother starts to get excited; 3) baby falls asleep; 4) mother looks forward to a bit of relaxing time; 5) smallest noise in the world happens (ie: a butterfly somewhere in the world flaps its wings); 6) baby opens his eyes and is ready to go again... UGH! It not only happened at home but also at his daycare (Danish vuggestuen). It got to the point where vuggestuen would call me at work so that I would come and pick up my seriously crabby and tired baby boy... We ended up buying sleep aid books (that probably worked better on Andreas and me than on Alexander), having sleep specialists come into vuggestuen, creams/lotions/candles/music and tried every other trick that we could think of. His lack of sleep made us worry that he would be kicked out of vuggestuen! Imagine that! Vuggestuen flunkie ;) We also worried that we would lose our sanity (ok... that actually happened but that is not all because of this) ;)

Anyway, flash forward 12 years... if anyone had told me then what I know now, I would never have believed it. Now, Alexander needs to be woken up. He LOVES to sleep. That boy can sleep anywhere, anyhow, any time. Sometimes, I find myself wishing that he would wake up... how ironic!

The vuggestuen would be proud ;)

PS: when Nicka was born, I actually called the doctor to find out why he slept so much. I was told that it was normal ;)

xox to you all!

Not going to sleep ;)

The little things

Today was absolutely beautiful. The sun was shining and warm. Andreas even put up the trampoline for the boys. It was such nice weather that I moved my correcting outside onto our back patio. It was heaven :) Oliver's art work from school was even in the spirit of the day!

Hope you all had a great Sunday xox

Early morning

Hello all!

Today was a "back to reality" kind of day... and an early back to reality, if I might add ;) The boys are still off and poor Andreas is the one who has to manage getting work done from home today because I had an early meeting... and a late one. It was hard to walk out the door when the sun was just creeping into the sky... and while the boys were still cosy in their beds.. but I was rewarded with a beautiful sunrise and a good cup of coffee on my way into work.

Happy Tuesday xox

Happy Easter!

Today, we coloured eggs and decorated them. I am thinking that this is probably the last time that Alexander will want to participate (without being bribed, that is...) so I am glad that we did it together. Yes, I do get stressed about the boys getting the darn dye all over the place but today it was worth it...

The rest of the day was filled with candies, visiting my sister, hanging out with family and playing with the cousins.

Happy Easter (or Passover) to you all xox

Post cards from Montreal... the spring edition ;)

Do you remember the 26C that we had the other day? Well, it definitely did not last ;) Happily, it was enough to melt the majority of snow and kick start the green ;) I feel the crappy winter mood slowly lifting..

Here are some post cards from Montreal. I avoided capturing all the garbage on the sidewalks that has now been freed from the melting snowbanks. Montreal, at this time of the year, might not be the prettiest but we all start to come back to life again ;)

Today, we suddenly hit 26 degrees C. Tomorrow will be rainy and cool again but, today, was beautiful... and my defrosting Montreal winter bad mood enjoyed it ;) It seems like the rest of Montreal joined me in a common "ahhhhh"...

My apologies for being a bad blog host... it is a busy time in the semester but, after this week, the correcting will be monumental but the daily grind will be a bit more manageable....

Happy week to you all xox

Ahhhhh...... :)

Bang on!

My friend, Gabrielle, sent me this random-internet-thing that, honestly, rings all too true... I couldn't have said it any better myself ;)

April Fool's Day

I wish that I could say that the snow that I woke up to was a joke... but it wasn't! I even had to clean off the car this morning... and I swear that the snow was laughing at me ;)

Actually, it is melting right now... and THAT makes me happy ;) Haha! You got me, snow! Now that is ENOUGH!

Glimpses of the last week...

Last weekend, we ended up having another blizzard... followed by nice, above 0C weather... now being followed with another blizzard :( This past week was filled with typical family chaos, lots of sporting events (the boys), starting the end of semster wrap up (Andreas and me), getting to finally wear spring shoes (even if it was only for 2 days), a fabulous art gala at Nicka and Oliver's school and lots of little things in between. I am happy that it is Friday! I plan on taking it easy... before the weekend chaos begins... Happy Friday! xox

Now.... here is some photo spam ;)

Ninja school

Lately, Oliver is obsessed with Ninjas. So are most of his school friends... They, collectively, have decided that it would make much more sense to focus their energies on Ninja school as opposed to grade 1. Seriously, when Oliver gets home, he shows me the Ninja moves that he has practised during the day with his famous friend W. Homework? What homework? It is all about Ninja moves ;) Listening to my teacher? No way! Ninja moves ;) He has even asked me to put a platform on our staircase so that he can practise jumping between the floors of our house. Guess what? I said no... ;) I know... terrible mother ;)

Anyway, I have to put on my very serious face when I watch his Ninja moves. It is very important that I don't smile (although the Ninja moves are very cute) because, mamma, this is very serious. His brothers are a little less respectful than I am.. although, when they were his age, Ninja moves were also part of the daily routine. Alexander thinks he looks like a hamster when he does the moves... I kind of agree ;) But, please, don't tell the Ninja ;)

Happy Ninja Tuesday to you all! ;)

Random internet Ninja hamster picture because, of course, we all need to have access to it ;)

Les cactus

Hello all! :)

This week has been a rough one. Not a terrible, catastrophic one but a sneaky-creep-up-on-you crappy kind of week. It started with a bad listening morning courtesy of the boys, a rejected paper, a frustrating colleague, Oliver being sick, a bigger-than-expected bill, Oliver not listening to his teacher and, then- thankfully- Friday (although, we had another blizzard! Please, someone tell Mother Nature that it is Spring!). You know those kinds of weeks ;)
Anyway, all week long, I had this song stuck in my head. Actually, the more that I think about it, the more appropriate it was. A little bit like my soundtrack.. Here is is... Thank you to Jacques Dutronc ;)

A shout out to my friend, Gabrielle: yes, I actually had a Jacques Dutronc song stuck in my head.... haha!

Happy Friday to you all and may it be a non-cactus weekend ;)

My teaching assistant ;)

Today, Oliver was not feeling well. He had one of those illnesses where he was not quite well but not quite sick, either. Parents, you know what I am talking about. Sick enough to qualify not going to school but well enough to drive you a little crazy ;) Anyway, both Andreas and I had to teach today so I ended up taking Oliver in to work with me. He quietly sat through my class (I LOVE tablets!) and then he came back to my office to help me arrange my paperclips on my desk. BIG help ;) I have to say that it was kind of nice to have my little "teaching assistant" with me. The other boys have been with me in the past but I think that they are past the time of actually enjoying it ;) Oliver even decided that he wants to be in my class because the chairs are fun (they are on wheels) and I let the students be on their computers ;) Haha! If only my real students were as easy to please ;)

xox to you all!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day from our Canadian-Swedish-not-Irish family to yours ;)

According to Oliver, this is the best day ever... after Christmas... and maybe his birthday. He has been practising being a leprauchan since the beginning of March so he was ready to go... pimp hat and all ;) He didn't forget his own heritage because he got to be leprauchan-y wearing a fan shirt from Andreas' hometown soccer team (Ljungskile SK) ;) This is one happy kid ;)

So excited!!

Sometimes, you just have to smile and say "whatever"...

Yes, I am totally jealous of all the beautiful spring shots on Instagram. Yes, I actually had to put studs on the bottom of my boots this morning so that I could walk to work. Yes, I was far from being the only one wearing boot studs... the train was FULL of us! Yes, you can easily dodge getting a parking ticket in Montreal by camouflaging your car in a snowbank... with NO effort at all! Yes, you can actually fall in love with your neighbourhood because of how many snowplows that are out on your streets. Yes, you will still lose your breath when you step out in one of the city's famous "wind tunnel" streets and have hard icy snow pelt your face. Yes, I think that yesterday was the first full city "snow day" that we have had since the famous ice storm of 1998 (maybe I am wrong on that but it seems like it).

Despite this, there comes a time in the winter when all Montrealers just have to say "whatever"... ;)

Wishing you all a happy Thursday! Now here is a snow photo spam... so you can be jealous ;)  xox

My "studded" boots! You know what? I am NOT the only one ;)

The view from my office ;)
